Dock fans! Alas, we have a dock that is usable!
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008Finally! I have always been a big fan of animated docks, similar to the Mac OS X dock.
There have been many different animated docks available for linux and some are actually quite good. AWN and Kiba come to mind as good animated docks for Linux.
Unfortunately all of the animated docks that I have ever tried with the exception of one, have always left me wanting more. They all have bugs that just make them a pain in the butt. For example AWN sometimes decides to freeze while doing something as simple as closing an open window. In order to get it back I have to open a new window in order to AWN to redraw itself. Not to mention all the glittering, twiching and flickering ….
Alas, I no longer have these problems. I was searching for a solution to my flickering and freezing issues with AWN on the ubuntu forums and ran across Cairo Dock. Ever since my days are not what they used to be. I finally have a dock that works and whats more it works the way I want it to. No glittering, no flickering and no nonsense.
